Metropolitan Opera - Tchaikovsky

The pattern was introduced in 1987 to honour the 100th anniversary of the New York Metropolitan Opera Company. The motif is an organic interweaving of stylized plant forms, resembling the Art Nuveau or Liberty movements in Europe at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is also  reminiscent of patterns found in Renaissance Italian Damask and glazed tile murals in Moorish Spain. The design has grand proportions and is colored to represent a bold, visual interpretation of some of opera’s greatest composers musical creations.
