Metropolitan Opera-Richard Strauss
The pattern was introduced in 1987 to honour the 100th anniversary of the New York MetropolitanOpera Company. The motif is an organic interweaving of stylized plant forms that could be a product of thertNuveau or the Liberty movements in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, but is also reminiscentof patterns found in Renaissance Italian Damask and in glazed tile murals in Moorish Spain. It is a designof grand proportions and has been colored to give bold visual expression to the individual musical styles ofsome of opera’s greatest composers.
