Crewel - White
A classic Jacobean design inspired by the crewel embroidery work that was characteristic of the reignof the Stuarts in England and Ireland beginning in 1603 with King James I and ending in 1714 with thedeath of Queen Anne. The traditional “tree of life” motif is composed of stylized botanical forms, including an imaginary vine – bearing thistle–like blossoms, berries, pomegranate and other exotic fruit. In order tocreate the effect of Jacobean crewel embroidery, “stitches” of bold colour are applied to a linen union ground cloth. The design is hand blocked using a set of 56 blocks engraved in 1923 and14 block colours.
